Since the CEOE's new Board of Directors was elected in February 2007, responsibility for the Confederation's international activities has been assumed by the International Relations Commission, chaired by Jesús Banegas. The Secretariat is entrusted to the International Relations Department.
The Commission's tasks are performed by a number of committees and working groups, as follows:
- Council for External Promotion (CPE), the CEOE, through its Council for External Promotion, coordinates and encourages the presence of its member organizations in action programmes outside Spain and formulates proposals on the framework for financial, tax and promotional support for the internationalization of Spanish enterprise.
To this end, it maintains close working relations with all the competent authorities, including the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade, the ICEX (Foreign Trade Institute) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. - European Union Commitee, the European Union Committee tracks the EU's economic and business policies. It also deals with all Single Market- and Economic and Monetary Union-related issues and the impact of the recent enlargements of the Union on the Spanish economy.
- A number of Working Groups organized by geographic area, pursuant to the Comprehensive Market Development Plan, drafted in conjunction with the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade, aimed at: the United States, Mexico, Brazil, Russia, Japan, China, India, Morocco and Algeria; as well as working groups that deal with cross-sectoral matters, tracking commercial policy and foreign investment, relations with the Foreign Trade Institute (ICEX) and export financing and loan insurance.
