The department's primary task is to analyze and track national and international socio-labour policies. It liaises with trade unions and provides technical support for the social dialogue process.
The Labour and Social Affairs Department advises the CEOE's governing bodies, member organizations and companies in areas such as collective bargaining, industrial disputes, human resource management, hiring and the labour market, immigration, education and training, prevention of occupational hazards, social security, health and social services, and, in conjunction with the International Relations Department, corporate social responsibility.
It provides technical support for the Corporate Social Responsibility and the Social Security, Occupational Risk Prevention, Health and Social Services Commissions.
It also coordinates business delegations to a host of related institutional bodies, including:
- In the European Union: European Social Dialogue, advisory bodies to the European Union, European funds and programmes, governing boards to European training, health and hygiene and labour relations agencies (CEDEFOP, OSHA, EUROFOUND), BusinessEurope,
- Nationally: Economic and Social Council, National Employment Scheme, National Social Security Institute (INSS), Naval Social Institute (ISM), Social Security Mutual Workmen's Compensation and Occupational Disease Insurance (MATEPSS), Institute for Seniors and Social Services (IMSERSO), Social Guarantee Fund (FOGASA), Labour and Social Security Inspection Service, National School Council, National Vocational Training Council, employment training, immigration and emigration, collective bargaining agreements, out-of-court labour settlements and so forth.
The Labour and Social Affairs Department is divided into five areas, namely collective bargaining; employment, training and immigration; occupational risk prevention; social security and health; and international social affairs.
